There is no denying that in this day and age privacy has become a personal responsibility. In the ever changing world of technology and software its not reasonable to keep ahead of the game and live life, raise children, have a career, hobbies, etc. This means you are essentially left to the mind games of psychology, advertising and companies giving you half truths. There are so many companies now offering services again it makes sorting thru good options hard. Remember as a gamer and a streamer you are caught between your sponsors, partners, affiliates, associates, and other cohorts pursuing a common goal. Don’t think for a minute that companies both involved and just scraping information are after your habits, interests; while more nefarious folks may be looking for personal information to destroy your public brand or person. Worse yet your residence, and name. As we have seen since streaming and becoming a sort of cult of personality things such as being “swatted” or “Stalked” have been occurring and continue to. Until legislation catches up with the times. IF it catches up. You must be absolutely responsible for the footprint you make. A great way that I have found to insulate certain aspects of my public and personal life is by using ProtonMail, and ProtonVPN. An added bonus if it is of interest is that proton VPN allows you to connect to their own entryway into the TOR Network.
I have run the gambit on vpns, of which I have written about in the past. I had given up after months of usage when I would find out that things explicitly stated as services were not being honored or were being obscured by third parties without resistance or public outcry. That in and of itself is a post for another day.
Today I want to share that I have become an affiliate for Proton Mail & Proton VPN. I have been using both services for longer than six months and it is the only service that has delivered and allowed me to secure two main sources of privacy violations, known/unknown/with or without malice/ or straight up by design.
Just a quick outline of what I have learned with my experience. Swiss Privacy. Data Security and Neutrality. ProtonMail is incorporated in Switzerland. Their servers are all located IN Switzerland. This means all user data is protected by strict Swiss privacy laws.
End to End Encryption. Automatic Email Security. ALL emails are secured automatically with end-to-end encryption. IT literally means even ProtonMail can not decrypt your emails. As a result our encrypted emails and data cannot possibly be shared with third parties.
The email is anonymous. No personal information is required to create your secure email account. By default they do not keep any ip logs which can be linked to your anonymous email account. As it should be they put OUR privacy FIRST.
It is OPEN SOURCE. Secure. The code is Audit-able by the community for vulnerabilities and assessment as to the validity of the advertised services. Closed source and Privacy do not mix as has been seen in the past with letter agencies or malicious third parties forcing data breaches.
The next issue I ran into is the lack of ease of use with other services. ProtonMail and ProtonVPN went above and beyond to make your interface easy to use, modern, and use able on any device without software install. ProtonMail secure email accounts are fully compatible with other email providers. You can send and receive emails normally.
Speaking to the second point is the modern inbox design that we have all come to use and know on many other popular platforms. The inbox is optimized for productivity. Every detail within the secure email service is optimized to help you better read, organize, and send email.
How about some icing on the proverbial cake? Physical Security! ProtonMail’s infrastructure resides in Europe’s most secure datacenter, underneath 1000 METERS OF SOLID ROCK.
Most of all though it was their vision for building an internet that protects privacy. Starting with email. They are scientists, engineers, and developers drawn together by a shared vision of protecting civil liberties online. Their goal is to build that internet which respects privacy and is secure against cyber-attacks. Their commitment is backed by the proof of their resolve and services which they provide.
Once I experienced this thru ProtonMail I was naturally led to their VPN service. This is the world’s only community supported secure vpn service. With 33 countries 454 servers and 531 Gbps Capacity. You won’t be compromised on bandwidth for the sake of privacy. This is important. Simply put when you use ProtonVPN to browse the web, your internet connection is encrypted. By routing your connection through encrypted tunnels, ProtonVPN’s advanced security features ensure that an attacker cannot eaves drop on your connection. It also allows you to acceess websites that might be blocked or rerouted or censored in your country.
ProtonVPN uses Secure Core. Its architecture gievs the secure VPN service the unique ability to defend against newwork-based attacks. Secure core protects your connection by routing your traffic through multiple servers before leaving their network. This basically means an advanced adversary who can monitor the network traffix at the exit server will not be able to discover the true IP address of ProtonVPN users, nor match browsing activity to that IP. AGAIN I cannot stress enough that these servers are located in hardened data centers in Switzerland, Iceland, and Sweden, PROTECTED by strong privacy laws, and operated on their own dedicated networks.
ProtonVPN uses the highest strength encryption to protect your internet connection. This means all your network traffic is encrypted with AES-256 key exchange is done with 4096-bit RSA and HMAC with SHA384 for message authentication. This is the difference between all the other advertised VPNS and PROTONVPN. They use VPN protocols which are known to be secure: IKEv2/IPSec and OpenVPN. ProtonVPN does not have any servers that support PPTP or L2TP/IPsec, even though they are less costly to operate. By using ProtonVPN I am able to be confident that my CPN tunnel is protected by the most reliable protocol.
Now where the rubber meets the road. ProtonVPN offers a free vpn service for one device and three countries. Secure File sharing, Secure streaming and TOR over VPN. You can route all your traffic through the Tor anonymity network and easily access Onion sites thaks to their one-click Tor integration.
Paid services add access all countries. Use on five devices. All of the advanced security features. And to boot they back all of this with a 30-day money back guarantee.
With an android and Ios app and web-interface you can access your data anywhere anytime SECURELY with CONFIDENCE that your privacy is the number one priority.
This service scales from personal use to enterprise. And is reasonably priced. Free includes 1 user, 500mb is storage, 1 address, up to 150 messages a day 3 folders and 3 labels.
I have a subscription plan “PLUS”. 5GB storage, 5 addresses, 1 custom domain. 1000 messages per day, 200 folders / 200 labels, support, custom filters, autoresponder. This also includes ProtonVPN PLUS which is good for use with 5 simultaneous connections. I use a stand alone open source mini router between my home network and my internet connection. To go an added step to make sure NO DATA from my connection leaks. Open WRTDD converted commerical routers, or preprogrammed are available and you should be familiar with them. The days of being forced to interact with a command prompt and complex settings are gone. Everything is done thru GUI, and you plug and play credentials into them and then you are done. No more worrying about leakages, or fingerprints. This package costs $12.00usd a month if paid monthly. I plan to pay yearly now that the services have proven themself. The plus plan is $115.20 a year… Broken down that is $9.60usd. Skip a day at the coffee shop, and secure your home, your data, your privacy and identity on the web without question.
I am happy to finally put this issue to rest, and rely on a company out of the reach of the normal backdooring bullshit. Modestly priced to facilitate the goal of internet privacy and personal control of data even on the free plans. No strings, no billing information to add. Anonymous. If you need more than the free plan offers as I wrote above the options scale all the way to enterprise.
I was not paid for this post. I am however an affiliate for this organisation. I believe and have been using their products for more than six months. I feel the same way as they do about data privacy and security and that we should control it and protect it. Essentially a modest commission for any signups or conversions into paid products is all the affiliate gets; more over, for me it offers a legitimate way to recommend them because I believe in the company, the vision, and the design of their system.
